Jellyfish selected for official competition at Edinburgh International Film Festival

We're very excited to announce this morning that Jellyfish will have its European Premiere (and first official screening in the UK) in competition at the longest continually running film festival in the world, Edinburgh International Film Festival.

We are also extremely proud to be nominated for the Micheal Powell award for 'Best British Feature'.

The festival takes place from 20th June to July 2nd and Jellyfish will be screening twice...

- Monday 25th of June at 6pm
- Wednesday 27th of June at 6pm

Tickets for all screenings go on general sale at 10am on 25 May.

Edinburgh is a fantastic film festival and very close to our hearts, as the first time we showed anything of the film to anyone was at the Works In Progress Lab, which we were invited to pitch on last year. Off the back of the WIP lab we met the wonderful folks at Bankside Films and continue to enjoy this amazing journey, sharing the film with the world.

It's a huge honour to be invited back to Edinburgh to show the completed film and we look forward to seeing as many of you, who have waited so long for a chance to see the film in the UK, at the festival as possible.

Liv and James in conversation with 'Cultured Vultures'

While in NYC at the world premiere of Jellyfish, Liv and James were interviewed by Danielle Solzman from 'Cultured Vultures'.

"if there’s a film that blew me away during the 2018 Tribeca Film Festival, it’s Jellyfish from director James Gardner. Prior to the world premiere a few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to sit down with Gardner and actress Liv Hill to discuss the film. Remember Liv Hill’s name because she delivers a breakthrough performance in Jellyfish."

Jellyfish reviewed by 'The Torch' magazine

Torch magazine have reviewed Jellyfish.

"The stunning Liv Hill is a revelation in the role as more emotions are conveyed in her eyes than can be portrayed through words in a script. The power of her performance causes audiences to feel what she feels in the most painful way, as she helplessly watches her barely-held-together life fall apart. Audiences can feel the conflicted emotions she holds for her negligent mother through the small tightening of her mouth."

Jellyfish reviewed by 'Unpaid Film Critic'

Jellyfish has been reviewed by 'Unpaid Film Critic' Wendy Moscow.

"Even though the empathetic high school teacher as savior has become a cliché in films such as this, Cyril Nri is wonderful as Mr. Hale, the drama teacher whose emotional “backstage” and “frontstage” turns on a dime. He sees Sarah’s potential and devises an unlikely creative outlet for her rage and ferocious wit – stand-up comedy."

Jellyfish 1 of 17 films 'Vulture' want you to see

Jellyfish makes another 'top 17' list, this time on NYC's online magazine 'Vulture'.

"The girl, Sarah (the superb Liv Hill) has a fierce will and acid tongue, which inspires her drama teacher (Cyril Niri, a black man whose voice is uncannily like Oliver Reed’s) to suggest she try stand-up. Don’t worry, this is not A Star is Born: Joan Rivers Edition or even a sentimental tale like last years Patty Cake$. It’s bitter and sad, with a good, unresolved ending."

Jellyfish awarded "A" by 'TV & The City'

Jellyfish has been reviewed by I.Simon and been awarded an "A" rating.

"Gardner’s direction & script, which he co-wrote with Simon Lord, are nothing short of amazing. He gives us a well crafted, realistic, compelling protagonist in Sarah, who can be quick-tempered, but you understand why, and you sympathize with her because you feel her pain and her longing to take care of her family."

Jellyfish "must see" and in 'Berkreviews' top three of Tribeca

Critic Jonathan Berk reviewed Jellyfish and named it as one of his top three films of Tribeca 2018 and a "must see".

"Hill gave the best performance and is an actress I’ll be on the lookout for in the future. See this movie, and know that it will be tough. However, the way it ends was ultimately satisfying and poetic. Jellyfish earns the MUST SEE rating."
